Our Story — 私たちについて

Torii Japan,
a conviction

Torii Japan was born from a simple belief: Japan deserves better than clichés.

Behind every journey lies a story. Behind every move abroad, there are doubts, successes, mistakes and discoveries. Behind every photo of a temple or a glowing city street stands a country that is complex, fascinating and deeply human.

This site was created by Cédric W., a Frenchman who has lived in Japan since 2009. Someone who works here, pays taxes here, raises a family here, builds a future here — and still learns something new about this country every single day.

It isn't the first time he's tried to share that world with others. Before Torii Japan, Cédric appeared as the recurring on-screen guide in Meet and Speak, an NHK World series filmed across Japan in 2012 and 2013 that followed international visitors discovering the country and learning to communicate in Japanese — an early, unlikely rehearsal for what this site tries to do today (a few episodes are still online).

Torii Japan is not a travel agency, not a traditional tourist guide, not just another personal blog. The ambition is different — to create a place where travellers, future expats, residents, entrepreneurs and Japan enthusiasts can find useful information, lived experiences and authentic perspectives on what Japan is really like.

You will find practical advice, life stories, reflections, cultural discoveries and sometimes testimonies that show Japan as it truly is: magnificent, surprising, occasionally bewildering — but always fascinating.

If Torii Japan can help you better understand Japan, prepare your trip, your move, or simply feed your curiosity — then its mission is already accomplished.
